A message from the President
Rory L. MacLennan
Welcome to the Cornwall & Area Chamber of Commerce. I am proud to be a part of one of the oldest business associations in the province of Ontario.
Since it was established close to 130 years ago, the Chamber has been an advocate on issues that impact Cornwall’s economic growth and prosperity. Working with the Ontario Chamber of Commerce and its provincial counterparts, it brings a strong voice to all levels of government.
The Chamber offers a broad range of benefits to its members from fuel discounts to preferred credit and banking fees, group insurance plans, and many other affinity programs, all focused on business growth, success, and prosperity.
With a focus on its community, the Cornwall Chamber presents a variety of programs. Its consumer focused Home Shows attract thousands of visitors and allows merchants to showcase the latest in products and services. It hosts networking and professional development activities, and its Business Excellence Awards and Citizen of the Year Banquet is one of Cornwall’s most distinguished affairs.
The Chamber has played a significant role in the revitalization of Cornwall’s urban core. Heart of the City, an initiative created by the Chamber has seen close to $50 million invested in a variety of projects in the downtown, Le Village, and along the Brookdale corridor.
The Chamber hosted one of the most successful Ontario Chamber of Commerce Annual Conventions ever presented. It welcomed the South African High Commissioner to the community, an event that may create positive alliances with that country. It also hosted delegates from the Republic of Korea, an event that garnered praise from the Korean Ambassador.
It recently spearheaded an initiative that resulted in a Tri Chamber Alliance, one unique to Canada. It has linked the Cornwall, Massena, New York and Akwesasne chambers of commerce in an alliance that will strengthen ties and develop mutually beneficial economic, Social and cultural programs.
Looking forward in the 21st century, the Chamber will continue work with the City of Cornwall and the entire region in a collaborative approach to economic growth and prosperity. It will continue to develop and deliver programs that benefit both its members and the community at large. And, it will continue to advocate, on behalf of the City and surrounding region.
